Stunning and rare vintage 1940s-50s Tehuantepec, Mexico emboidered Huipil blouse made of burgundy velvet featuring a stacked pattern of small square shaped embroidered flowers. Frida Kahlo frequently wore these traditional Mexican skirts and tops, and there are several photographs of the artist seen in them. This particular blouse dates from when Kahlo was still alive - making it highly collectible. Even the colors are reminiscent of Kahlo's paintings. It is in beautiful vintage condition showing no signs of wear.

The top is set on a thick yet soft burgundy colored velvet which is backed with an adorable red polka dot print cotton lining. It features an all-over floral motif with several small orange flowers. The embroidery is absolutely exquisite and features French knots in the center of the flowers.

As the traditional dress of women in Tehuantepec, Mexico, this rare vintage embroidered top is a beautiful work of historical Mexican textile art and is perfect for warm days and nights.

Size: Small-Large (one size fits most due to the boxy square Huipil cut)

Bust/Waist: 47"
Length: 21"
Shoulder to Shoulder: 18"

Condition: Excellent to near mint condition. Beautiful and clean, ready to wear. No holes, stains, etc. The top was handmade in Mexico by Tehuana women during the 1940s/50s so the finishings may seem semi-raw; however this is how these tops were made back then so it is not a design flaw.
