Absolutely amazing 1950s New Look house coat dress in a beautiful damask stripe silk taffeta with red velvet sash. This rare gown features a nipped waist and an extra full skirt that drapes to the floor. During the classy 1950s, women would wear these house coats as lounge wear around the house or as a garment for entertaining, usually when getting ready for a party.

The construction on this particular house coat is breathtaking - it is very 1950s Christian Dior. The back skirt has been sewn so that the stripe meets at the dead center--creating a wonderful "V" diagonal pattern that reaches the floor. Although this is a difficult technique to achieve, this house coat executes the design perfectly. The bodice is cut so that the lines are vertical, and the collar features a cut-out in the back so that it lays flat. All in all, a truly amazing work of art from the 1950s. Today you could wear this as a coat over a simple black dress or even wear as is with heels. Or, if you're just that classy - wear it as the women did in the 50s while you style your hair in curls.
