1920s Heavily Embroidered Coral Satin Metallic Chinese Robe
1920s Heavily Embroidered Coral Satin Metallic Chinese Robe
Antique 1920s coral satin Chinese robe with heavy hand done metallic embroidery. The embroidered design is done in real gold and silver metal cord, reminiscent of the gold lame so popular for flappers of the era. The metallic embroidery is raised on the surface with couching stitches to hold it in place. Quite possibly the most unique feature on this robe is the highly expressive embroidered Chinese figures. There are 8 of these figures on the coat, with 4 on either side of the coat posing in various pastoral scenes. The expressions on these faces are very well done, and are made with silk floss. Fully lined in a fuchsia pink and gold silk jacquard, this coat is just as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside. The stylish coat has a straight cut, wide sleeves, mandarin collar, and vented side seams. Truly a rare and stunning vintage textile, this 1920s robe is sure to bring you joy every time you wear it.
Size: Small
Measurements (with robe closed):
Bust: 34-36"
Shoulder to Shoulder: 17-18"
Length: 39"
Condition: Very good wearable vintage condition with some visible wear (please see close-ups). The robe has no holes or tears but does have some dark fading/discoloration to the metallic thread in a straight line on the bottom of the front gold metallic panels, most likely due to improper storage. There are also some very faint water stains throughout which are also probably due to a moist storage environment. The lining is in perfect condition and though the robe has a few flaws it is still very wearable. Price has been adjusted to reflect condition.
